Professor Jacob Olalekan Arawande was born over five (5) decades ago at Osan Ekiti, Ekiti State. He is a native of Ile- Ife, Osun State. He is a Professor of Analytical and Food Chemistry, lecturing at the Department of Science Laboratory Technology, University of Medical Sciences, Ondo-City, Ondo State. Prof. Arawande attended his elementary education at A.U.D Primary School Iyere, Owo in 1980-1986. He had his post primary education at Ayetoro/Iloro High School, Iloro Ekiti and Adeyeri/Iyere Comprehensive High School, Iyere, Owo in 1986-1991 and 1992 respectively. He equally had his post secondary education at the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti in 1992-1994 and 1996-1998 where he obtained his National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in Science Technology (Applied Chemistry Option) with a grade of distinction (3.65 & 3.67 on the scale of 4.00 point respectively). He had his University education at the Federal University of Technology, Akure in 2000-2002, 2003-2005 and 2007-2013 where he obtained Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Chemistry with a grade of Distinction (CGPA 4.94 on the scale of 5.00 point) in 2004, Master of Technology in Analytical Chemistry with PhD grade (CGPA 4.56 on the scale of 5.00 point) in 2005, Ph.D in Chemistry (with specialization in Analytical Chemistry) in 2013 and he later bagged B.Sc. Degree in Chemistry with a grade of First Class (CGPA 4.56 on the scale of 5.00 point) in 2018 at Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko in order to complement his Higher National Diploma (HND) background for the purpose of overcoming the challenge of HND/B,Sc dichotomy. He is a registered member of Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT), Science Association of Nigeria (SAN), Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN), and Nigerian Institute of Food Science Technology (NISFT). He worked in Vegetable Oil Division, JOF Ideal Family Farms Limited as Quality Assurance Personnel between 1995 and 2005. He rose to the position of an Assistant Quality Assurance Manager before he joined the service of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo. Prof. J.O. Arawande was employed as Technologist I in November 7th, 2005 in the Department of Food Science Technology, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo. He was laterally converted to Lecturer III in November 30th, 2007 at the Department of Science Laboratory Technology. He was promoted to Lecturer II in October, 2011. He had his promotion to Lecturer I in 2014. He was the Unit Head of Chemistry Option as well as the Departmental Seminar Coordinator in 2008-2016. He was also a member of Management Committee on Central Analytical Laboratory and the Institution Taskforce on School Fees. He was the Secretary of Faculty of Food Technology Journal (Journal of Food, Science and Hospitality) between 2007 and 2014. Prof. Arawande joined the service of University of Medical Science, Ondo in March, 2016 as Lecturer I and he rose to the position of a Professor since 1st October, 2024. He is immediate past Ag. Director, Odosida Campus, University of Medical Sciences, (2023-2025); Ag. Director (SIWES) (2020 - 2023); and Ag. Head of Department of Chemistry of the Institution (2018 - 2020 ). He is a member of many committees at Departmental, Faculty and Institutional Levels in the University. Currently, Prof. J.O. Arawande is the Ag. HoD, Department of Science Laboratory Technology, Chemistry Technology, University of Ilesa where he is doing his sabbatical leave. His area of research is utilization of plant extracts in preserving edible oils against oxidative and hydrolytic rancidity, food analyses etc. Prof. Arawande has exhibited a high sense of hard work, dedication to duty and competence in all areas of academics. He has demonstrated a high academic standard in research works which has been documented in sixty-eight (68) Academic Journal Publications, fifteen (15) conference proceedings and four (4) textbooks in laboratory practices and general laboratory techniques (GLT). He has attended several academic conferences both locally and internationally. He has served as external assessor and examiner in the following institutions: I.External Assessor, Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti November 2018. IV.External Moderator, Higher National Diploma, Department of Applied Chemistry, Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Osun-State, Nigeria 2018 - 2020. V.External Examiner, B.Sc., Department of Science Laboratory Technology, University of Benin, Benin for 2024 - Date. VI.External Examiner, B.Sc., Department of Science Laboratory Technology, Delta State University, Abraka, currently appointed for 2025/2026 Academic Session. VII.External Examiner, B.Sc., Department of Science Laboratory Technology, Lead City University, Ibadan, currently appointed for 2025/2026 Academic Session. VIII.External Examiner, M.Sc., Department of Chemical Science (Industrial Chemistry), Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State on 2nd June, 2026. IX. Professor Arawande has mentored many students in National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND), Bachelor of Science Laboratory Technology (B. SLT) and Masters Degree programmes. He is happily married to Mrs Damilola Helen Arawande and the union is blessed with four (4) children.
